Yes, but what's the Cowcam?

The Cowcam
A long, long time ago, back in the early days of the commercial internet,  webcams were the latest thing. The CamCam (slow, but thanks to Web Archive for the piece of history) was one of my contributions, and I briefly had the Amstercam when I first moved to the edge of the red light district in Amsterdam.

At some point, I registered cowcam.com, with the idea of equipping three or four cows in a herd of Fresians with shoulder-mounted cameras, setting up a website with video feeds, and allowing the rest of the Internet world to share the experience.

Unfortunately the project never came to be. Cows were "too rambunctious" - according to the then-webmaster of Gateway PCs, whom I approached for sponsorship - and the cameras would "never survive more than a few hours".  Too few farms had high-speed internet links, and cameras were still large and battery-intensive.

These days, most of the technical concerns are gone. One day it will happen, and maybe I'll even get an arts council subsidy. Until then, I just use it as a personal domain name.
